Google discriminates Firefox users.
So since yesterday my reCaptcha codes were extremely hard to read, after a bit of investigation, it turned out that installing User Agent Switcher and changing my user agent to Chrome 32 on Windows 8 (as opposed to Firefox Nightly on Linux) it brings back the more readable images. I've switched the user agent back and forth a few times to confirm that it's the case and it is, any reason as to why it's happening other than "you're not using our product, so we'll serve you harder images until you decide to use Chrome."?Also excuse me if it's a wrong group to post about it but I couldn't find any complaints-specific section on their contact page regarding reCaptcha. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "reCAPTCHA" group. I wouldn't say reCAPTCHA sucks, it has been a good product although somewhat difficult to use.But lately they increased the difficulty and I'm finding almost impossible to pass the test now. It's getting to the point that I'll have to just quit using sites that use reCAPTCHA. Just today a download site I use changed to a new reCAPTCHA and it took me about 30 attempts to finally prove I'm a human. Half the time the image was so distorted I didn't even bother, and hit reload. The other half of the time I made attempts at it even though I knew I was doing a lot of guessing, and kept failing. It must be about the 30th attempt I finally got past the test.This is ridiculous. I have normal sight and by now you've probably realized I'm not a spam bot.Are you trying to make it impossible for humans to pass the test? Hey, I'm a human, but just today I was trying to use a site that has reCAPTCHA and it's gotten so difficult that it took me about 30 attempts to prove I'm human. (The site was fine yesterday, they changed the captcha today).Don't you think this is getting a bit too ridiculous???Whats the end game? Make sites so that nobody can use them? Not robots, not humans, nobody?Please give a reason for this craziness. I'd at least like to understand what's happening although I'll probably have to quit using the site. If I understand your post correctly, you simply wan the reCAPTCHA to behave more user-friendly when an invalid entry is made by the web visitor. There are dozens of ways to approach this, but I have "published" my PHP solution here: http://spectrum-nashville.com/reCAPTCHA/demo.php You can download the ZIP file with all the code and use it if you like. The page linked above actually uses the code as an example, so try it out by entering an invalid response and see if it does what you want. I have spent so much time on this. I have follow the php plugin instructions of Captcha to the letter and replace the keys. When somebody enters an incorrect word, the file that process the form takes the person to a different page displaying "The reCAPTCHA wasn't entered correctly. Go back and try it again.(reCAPTCHA said: incorrect-captcha-sol)" only. instead of refreshing the page and showing different words. When I try the first time it worked, but when I changed directories and reroute everything it doesn't anymore. I have start fresh several times and nothing. How do I reverse an email that was submitted to reCAPTCHA?
How do I reverse an email that was submitted to reCAPTCHA? I was expermenting with myown site and forms when I hadn't known enough or really read through reCAPTCHA, so I gave email that i use often thinking that I could just remove and resupply a better fit email once I get it all working and tested - little I had known this isn't the case for what it seems right now.. I have removed these reCAPTCHA from my sites, forms, and went into my reCAPTCHA accounts and removed all URL's/sites that will be using the reCAPTCHA, as well keys for the api.... However now a few months later after REMOVEAL this reCAPTCHA and the original personal email that was submitted is still being blocked and still getting many complaints... anyway to reverse an email thet was being used? so far is the only answer is to create new email accounts and dumping my original that was submitted? or is there a way in reversal? I agree. I installed reCAPTCHA and I also keep getting spam bots bypassing the captcha trap. I would like to increase a little bit the difficulty of the captchas, because it seems pretty evident that the spam bots are now using some sort of OCR that easily bypassess this security measures. The "solution" was to re-enter all domains in the new system, and get new keys. I thought it would give an error if you entered an existing domain, instead it accepts it, and both the legacy keys and the new keys work. I was just notified that the two recaptchas I have on my site aren't working. They will work in Safari, but they aren't working in the other browsers or on a phone, This is happening on PCs and Macs. Chrome gives a hint that there is something insecure in one of the scripts, so it isn't going to load it. I am seeing a lot of posts like this that these have recently stopped working. Does anyone know why? There seem to be a lot of questions here, but no answers. I'd like to be able to continue to use it, but must fix it very quickly. I'm getting really fed up seeing reCAPTCHA's now. The images are do undecipherable, it usually takes me 5-10 refreshes to get something that I can - as a human - read and put into the box. Wtf reCaptcha?
Is there a reason that the real words in captchas are entirely legible yet the random letters are 6/10 illegible... to me it would make more sense to obscure the real word and make the random ones easily legible. I get very agitated when I have to re-enter a captcha 3-4 times. I know it's called reCaptcha but c'mon guys.. I had no problem ignoring them if i got them wrong the first time back when I was using voting systems for private WOW or MC servers, But lately its meant money, and time is money. Captcha image not shown in my website
Hi all,I've started recently creating a website for a family event. I want to include a reCaptcha in a form to avoid spam. I'm using the PHP plugin and have followed these instructions: https://developers.google.com/recaptcha/docs/php?hl=es.I'm testing the captcha in the local host using global keys (they are supposed to work in the local host) but I can't manage to get the captcha image to be shown (I've tried in Firefox and in Eclipse internal browser).I've attached the files so you can check if I'm making any mistakes. In the attached files I've substituted my keys by private_key and public_key but I've made the tests with the right keys which appear in my reCaptcha account.I've read in the recent posts that some user are experiencing problems with reCaptcha and actually I've realized that some of them have moved reCaptacha from their websites. Readers spend 5 minutes trying to figure out what the garble is so they can type it in. There are a lot of better sites that recaptcha does that doesn't require the reader to get frustrated and stop reading the web site. Don't let this happen to your site....readers have too many options to read one that has recaptcha and insults their intelligence. Messages not received dependent on email address
Hi, I've found that when people fill in my online contact form, sometimes the message isn't transmitted. What's odd is that the message is stored in the database but not sent to me. If someone uses a gmail address or hotmail, I dont get the confirmation email. If I use the same message but change the email address, the message comes through fine! reCAPTCHA is great for what it does BUT ...
I think reCAPTCHA is a great "human detector" but there are 2 irritating issues I've come across: 1) The text is often too distorted to read and this means it needs to be refreshed multiple times to get to a "human" readable image. 2) If using the "sound" CAPTCHA, the verbiage is virtually always too distorted to hear - out of 10 refreshes I got 1 correct due to such bad distortion. reCaptcha Installed on Testimonials page in Joomla Site - But I'm still being bombarded by Spam. What can I do?
I have a website set up on Joomla 1.5.26 using RS Monials 1.5.3 to collect customer testimonials. I was getting lots of bogus testimonials that are just spam (several per day). RS Monials has a built in reCaptcha function, so I registered an account and enabled it.This was not cutting AT ALL on the spam, so I disabled the form for 3 weeks hoping the spammers would forget the site and move on. As soon as I re-enabled it, the spammers were back. Multiple Administrators for sites?
With other Google tools (like Webmaster Tools or Analytics) I can assign multiple users as administrators.Is that possible with reCAPTCHA? Found the issue. it was in the config file. all references must be in https as Facebook now requires all app to be servered over https. I have an page thats using CAPTCHA and works fine on my servers but when I access the page through a Facebook page tab app the captcha doesn't work. Any ideas? CAPTCHA field disappaers after pressing submit but before form is submitted
When a user submits a form on my site, the CAPTCHA field disappears before the form is submitted causing the submit button to bounce up before the form is processed.E.g., completing http://www.google.com/recaptcha/demo/ causes the submit button to bounce up before the form is actually submitted and verdict is displayed.I can set a fixed height to the div containing the CAPTCHA field but the field itself still disappears.
