Could not open sockets - disappointing

The reCaptcha was working fine for a while and then I heard from customers about this error. When I tried the registration on the site, the error didn't even mention reCaptcha and I had to search the term. Then on Google's site about reCaptcha, this error wasn't mentioned on the Troubleshooting page. Finally I came here, see only one recent post about it, and it links to the lengthy documentation. I have no time to spend on something that should be simple and, even if I did correct whatever the issue may be, I'm not going to risk another issue happening out of the blue and with no notification that it happened.In short, Google lost me.
