Down for me, as well (Florida). Been trying to register for Wordpress.org and thought it was THEM, until I realized thy are using the reCaptcha API, as well. Grrr... so frustrating. Could not agree more. These captchas are utterly ridiculous. I've just tried about 20 times on website to register using recaptcha. Tried text and audio. Utterly fucking useless. I gave up. Re: Recapcha giving error on IE8 browser.
I'm also getting the same error in IE8 (in my jsp based application). I'm trying to open a modal window which has the ajax version of recaptcha. The recaptcha div is hidden on load of the modal window. The error i got is given below. Message: Can't move focus to the control because it is invisible, not enabled, or of a type that does not accept the focus.
