How do you verify correct response entry?

I have been able to get the page I am working with to display a captcha at the bottom of the form, but can not get the page to verify my response. It doesn't seem to matter what codes I find to use nothing seems to work. I am not very good at coding, I just know how to do basic things, and I am trying to get this to work.
