wordpress: CAPTCHA failed. Please try again!

I've installed this on a client's site, filling out the form triggers error messages and the message doesn't go through. Their page: http://bit.ly/1HKGYDf The error message: Warning: file_get_contents(): https:// wrapper is disabled in the server configuration by allow_url_fopen=0 in /nfs/c01/h13/mnt/2656/domains/http://bit.ly/1HKGVYg on line 280 Warning: file_get_contents(http://bit.ly/1Vyl11n): failed to open stream: no suitable wrapper could be found in /nfs/c01/h13/mnt/2656/domains/http://bit.ly/1HKGVYg on line 280 I contacted their web host, Mediatemple, and they wrote: "On the GRID Server allow_url_fopen is off by default.  If you need that value enabled, you can do so in the php.ini file for the server using the information in the following article: Why is allow_url_fopen disabled on the Grid? http://bit.ly/1HKGYDh " Is this really necessary to change? Why won't no recaptcha work? I've installed this plugin on several other wordpress sites and it works fine (those sites are on other web hosts, not mediatemple).
